Designer: Cary Santiago

Imahe
I purchase the Preview Magazine monthly ever since September for a lot of reasons and the corner where they talk about influential designers is my most favorite part. Not only is it inspirational for aspiring designers but it motivates us to be better because we have people to look up to.  I knew about the designer Cary Santiago because of the article in the magazine. Reading it moved me to pursue this passion that I am beginning to love. The article together with the photos of the designer's work made me think about what the industry would be like if I'd choose to pursue it seriously someday like being able to build my name in the industry. So when I was talking to my boss the other day and mentioned the name of the designer, she handed me an invitation card to the opening of this event but it was already around 5:30pm when it came up but I didn't want to lose the chance of seeing the work I admired so much when I saw it in the magazine. I was so thrilled to know ...

You can(not) start the change

Imahe
Hello there reader! ^_^ If you haven't read my blog on making a difference please do check it out as this blog post is connected to it.  Have you ever wondered where I got my cool shirts? (Like the one that says, "Make A Difference" or maybe this?)  I bet you do!  ^_^  I forgot to mention the name of the shop as I posted my previous blog so if you'd like to buy cool shirts like mine you can visit the "SML Boutique" on facebook and order one now! :) I came across the shop as I was searching for online shops on facebook. (This is an additional to my online shopping experience) SML boutique so far offers 3 inspirational shirt collections and I bought one from each. ^_^  They're shop is so cool because you could choose your desired statement, shirt color and size (like awesome customization! ^_^ I bet there are only a few shops who could offer you 10+ color choices like them!)  and the quality of the t-shirt print is very good. ...

Make A Difference

Imahe
Make a Difference- reminded me of my experiences with the Ateneo School For Upcoming Leaders, Ateneo Campus Leadership Discovery, Xavier Engaged and Experienced Leadership, School of Business and Management Student Council, Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana- Social Involvement Office and the Circulo De Arte. (My Leadership and Spiritual Formation) Make a difference.  Ever since I experienced those leadership and spiritual formations, the way I think, talk and act  changed for the better. I entered the university with only one goal and that was to graduate with honors. I believe that  goal was a little bit selfish when I became aware of my role in the society. My formation made me see that college life is not only about excelling in my academics. College life is also about learning how to make a difference in one's  life and in the lives of others.  I guess my college life wouldn't be life-changing if I didn't take the risk in bein...

Design 02: Leather and Laces

Imahe
I was reading my first copy of Preview magazine (September 2014) when I was inspired to design a piece. The photos on the runway where the designers made use of laces made me want to pick up my sketchbook and coloring materials to create my version. I wanted to design something that would stand out so I used the color black because for me somehow the color brings this strong aura especially if leather is used. It took me days to design these since I was busy studying and working in the past few weeks. I don't force myself to design anything. Inspiration can be found anywhere so I keep my sketchbook and art materials ready just in case inspiration comes knocking. ^_^ Here's what I have designed. :)

DESIGN 01: Filipiniana

Imahe
In the past few months, I have been reading fashion magazines and making myself aware of the countless names of famous designers and brands across the globe. I made my first mood board with the theme, "I love Philippines". Through gathering internet photos of the various events and sceneries in the country, I came up with this. (credits to the owners of the photos in the mood board :) I wanted to look into the design of the Filipiniana because when I see women wearing it, it makes me travel back in time. (Maria Clara ♥) For me, the design of the Filipiniana is elegant and very beautiful.  Seeing the design made me realize that the early Filipinos are so creative that they were able to come up with unique designs which up to this day still is able to bring pride and honor to the country when worn.  By using this mood board, I came up with my own set of designs. :)  A.  B. Make Your Own Havaianas Butuan 2014

Imahe
September 26-28,2014 My Make Your Own Havaianas experience started with an online recruitment post on facebook. I myself am a buyer of Havaianas flip-flops. So far, I've already had my fourth pair. Upon seeing the post, I wanted to apply and be part of it since I haven't tried applying for the MYOH events in Cagayan de Oro City. Somehow I felt scared of applying since it's going to be a new experience if I become part of the MYOH Butuan Team.  I am an Accountancy student but we only had one marketing class in our curriculum during the summer of our junior year and we weren't able to experience being on the field and do the actual marketing. We just had a reporting on what our product is (space food, fashion, and etc.). I only experienced how marketing is done through my years of stay in the student council.  So, I made my resume and submitted it over the internet on the same day that I saw the post.  A few days later, my close friend shared to me the post an...

The Dressmaker In Transit

Imahe
Two months ago, I enrolled in a dressmaking class under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of Agusan National High School. I had been planning to enroll since the month of May. For me, taking up the class would mean having to experience an introduction to the fashion scene and having a glimpse of how clothes are planned and made. So far, I have learned another set of basic stitches compared to what I learned in grade school and high school since that was our first project. Currently, I am working on my own pencil skirt. I had my measurements taken, drafted the pattern, had the cloth cut and have been sewing it on my own. With this experience, I could say that being a dressmaker isn’t an easy kind of work. Every detail in constructing a garment should be taken into consideration in order to achieve the best result. Recently, we had our Acquaintance Party and Induction of Officers. I had been elected as the class PIO.  Here’s a picture of my classmates. ...
